The costumes this week are very interesting. Especially Margret Cho’s.
The group pro dance was pretty good, I didn’t recognize a couple of the pros and then I notices one of them lost her skirt early.
Jennifer and Derek – Derek is so funny, his facial expressions make me giggle. I like how well him and Jen dance together. There was a part where I thought she made a mistake but I think it was just meant to be part of the story. After hearing the judges I guess they did mess up, and they showed us the right way, and it looked awesome!
Florence and Corky – Florence was saying during rehearsal week that her husband died 8 years ago and she tears up. That must be the worst loss someone can go through. I don’t even want to think about Steve dying ever. The dance was really good; the kiss at the end was a little crazy and unexpected. I think other than that there wasn’t really a story. Maybe Jen and Derek going first ruined my expectations though because they did so well on the story aspect for the night.
Kurt and Anna – he’s just a big tree dancing around. Hahaha. I’d say he’s not used to small delicate movements. I love that he had a tea party with his daughters. The rain at the start of the dance was interesting. Did they do that with lights or what? The quality on my laptop kind of sucks so I didn’t really see it clearly. It was enough of a distraction that I wasn’t really paying attention to the dance. Ugh, well I didn’t see anything bad about the dance. He definitely seemed to find his delicate side and moved not at all like a big tree.
Margret and Louis – It’s all about pride. And that must have been where the rainbows came in. There is so much gay pride in this dance I think I am going to have rainbow colored night mares tonight. Mostly Margret did great with her hips and legs and I was really surprised at the beginning of the dance at how well she did but then the last half she started to miss her steps and there was parts where she was stopping between dance moves, there just wasn’t a flow. The story was about having pride. That’s not a story. Over doing it, is what that was.
Audrina and tony – This story could potentially be the saddest of the evening. The story is very real for so many people out there, not the back from the dead part, but the dead soldier part. Audrina did very well, her dancing is graceful and she did pretty well at keeping her face in it too. “you walk with your feet and you dance with your heart”. That’s a great quote from Len. To go from Gay pride to honoring our military, was a great way to help me forget that last dance.
Bristol and Mark – I cannot imagine Bristol as intense, so this dance should be interesting. Mark started out the dance with some contemporary and I can’t imagine Len is going to like that. It only took Bristol about 30 seconds to plant that huge grin on her face again, but she continued to fight it through the dance and she did fairly well. I didn’t think Bristol’s dance would be part of it but Len said it was all too contemporary for his taste.
Brandy and Maks – I am glad that Brandy addressed how it always looks like she is fighting with Maks, and she really does want to work with him. This Samba seemed kind of slow but they looked great dancing. I think this was Brandy’s best dance so far and apparently so did the audience since I think that was the first standing ovation of the night. I didn’t see anything wrong with how Maks was teaching during rehearsals but I guess he was being naughty and the judges think he is a tough teacher and partner.
Kyle and Lacey – He did kind of look like a big bird during rehearsals. Even though his technique and musicality was great for the dance, he still looked strange in the dance, but I don’t think it was because he did anything wrong, other than his feet. It just looked awkward to me. The judges seemed to like it a lot though.
Mike and Karina – During rehearsals, he was really looking pigeon-toed and I can’t imagine how hard it would be to fix that with no dance back ground and never having a reason to correct in his whole life. The whole dance Mike has this silly grin on his face, I can’t decide if it’s because he thought he was doing so much better in the dance or if it was because of how Karina looked in her costume. He danced so much better this week, but still not great.
Rick and Cheryl – He said Cheryl is a 26 year old pipsqueak….really, is she only 26? The dance started out slow but I guess that’s what sometimes happens with having to tell a story, it picked up pretty quick though and I really liked the different levels, making Cheryl taller than Rick. His height wasn’t so bad this week, and he didn’t look like he was slouching to look shorter. I could have done without seeing him with his shirt open though. Eliza Dusku (his girlfriend) seemed to really love it!
“8” was a very popular number this week.
Results:
Neyo seems to be channeling an early years Michael Jackson for his performance, but I really did like it. The song, despite being sang by Neyo seemed pretty clean, although I didn't cling to every word so it's hard to say.
I really liked the dance/music from Mark and Maks' brother. Very entertaining. Not at all like a dance-off, they were more like dancing together, but it was fun!
Michael Bolton is definitely a better singer than he was dancer.
So glad to see Margret and Louis leaving this week, I wouldn't have minded if it was Florence or Corky either though.
